Pharmacists are the experts in drug discovery, development, preparation and usage of medicines. They are both professional scientists and qualified health care practitioners. Pharmacists work in hospitals, in the community and in the pharmaceutical industry. They promote the safe and effective use of medicines and ensure quality patient care. Often, pharmacists are the first point of information on medicines for the public and other health care professionals, and must be effective communicators.
Pharmacists receive training in diverse areas of science and in the skills required to be effective and professional in their job. The MPharm degree provides the knowledge and skills education essential for future practice and the School of Pharmacy at Keele provides the ideal setting for this. Located within the Faculty of Health, the School complements the existing School of Medicine and students will be taught in a dynamic and flourishing multidisciplinary, interprofessional environment.

Hospital Pharmacy
A Hospital Pharmacy is concerned with pharmacy service to all types of hospital and differs
considerably from a community pharmacy.
Some pharmacists in hospital pharmacies may have more complex clinical medication management issues
whereas pharmacists in community pharmacies often have more complex business and customer relations
issues. Because of the complexity of the medication use system, many pharmacists practicing in
hospitals gain more education and training after pharmacy school through a pharmacy practice
residency and sometimes followed by another residency in a specific area.
Hospital pharmacies can usually be found within the premises of the hospital.
